On Thursday June 2, 2016 Mali’s Deputy Chief of Mission, Andrew Young, attended the closing ceremony for the English Access Microscholarship Program. The Access Program provides English language courses to talented 13-20 year-olds from economically disadvantaged sectors through after-school classes and intensive sessions. The program has been implemented since 2014 in partnership with the Center for Study and Culture Monsignor Luc Sangaré in Bamako. At the ceremony, DCM Young recognized all thirty-five Access students and two teachers during his speech and congratulated them for their “determination in learning a new language”. An Access student representative also delivered a speech thanking the U.S. Embassy for the opportunity and explaining in English how the Access program cultivated a “hunger for learning” among the participants. All Access students and teachers received certificates of completion, marking the end of the two-year program.
