Ambassador Hankins Presides over the Reopening Ceremony of the American Center in Bamako after Renovation

On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, Ambassador Dennis Hankins welcomed many Malian friends and partners to join him for the reopening ceremony of the American Center in Bamako.  The new American Center has as its motto: “Inform. Inspire. Innovate,” and that is exactly what we hope Malians will experience when they visit the Center.  This reopening comes after several months of renovations to modernize, make more comfortable, and promote interaction between Americans and Malians who become members of the Center.

With its new décor and new programs, the American Center in Bamako, located at the U.S. Embassy, is a multi-functional center whose mission is to promote mutual understanding between the American people and the people of Mali. The center has resources to discover American culture; facilitate English learning; discover higher education in the United States; and strengthen friendly relations between the United States and Mali. According to Ambassador Hankins at the reopening ceremony, “The American Center is the showcase of the American diplomatic mission in Mali. It allows the Malian public to interact with Americans, experience American culture and ideals, all in an open, welcoming space that promotes inspiration and innovation.”

Center members can participate in a variety of programs to practice English, learn leadership, develop personal skills, and access information about fellowships and exchange programs funded by the U.S. government.

Card-carrying members can now come in and use our services during regular days and hours and enjoy all the new innovations, including multiple online resources and the new Innovation Room.

However, for health reasons related to COVID-19, the number of visitors per day will be limited. You must reserve a seat before coming. Only those with an American Center membership card will have access.
