Chargé d’Affaires Andrew Young Visits Timbuktu

Chargé d’Affaires Andrew Young visited Timbuktu on November 15 to reinforce partnerships with Timbuktu and underscore the United States’ commitment to supporting Mali and all its people in their quest to find a durable peace.

During his visit, the Chargé made courtesy calls on the Governor, the Imam of the Grand Mosque of Timbuktu (Djingareyber), on judicial authorities, on MINUSMA representatives, and to USAID supported projects.  He also visited a public lycée being restored through a project of USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives and the Ahmed Baba Institute.  These meeting covered a wide range of concerns, including security, peace, Ebola, religious extremism, aid and development.  The Chargé closed his visit with an interview with state television ORTM and a private FM radio.
