Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy Greg Garland and Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdoulaye Diop, co-chaired the opening ceremony of a three-day workshop on the Global Strategy for Food Security from USAID on October 18 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako. Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdoulaye Diop urged the Malian stakeholders to deliver tangible results for long term results at the workshop. Chargé Garland discussed the adoption of the Food Security Law by the U.S. Congress last year and how it demonstrates the U.S.’s long standing and continued commitment to reducing world poverty and hunger. He noted that USAID’s new global food security strategy is a continuation of the “Feed the Future” initiative and that it targets growth objectives supported by sustainable and inclusive agriculture, building resilience, and capacity for the ending hunger.
