The Government of the United States on behalf of the American people extends its profound condolences to the families of the 13 French soldiers who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter accident in Mali on November 25, 2019. Our sympathies are with the victims’ families, friends and loved ones, and with the French people during this difficult hour.
The United States expresses its deepest gratitude to the Government of
France for its counterterrorism efforts in Mali and across the Sahel.
Every day in Mali, France’s soldiers work tirelessly with their Malian counterparts
and UN peacekeepers through Operation Barkhane to save thousands of lives, defend civilians, and provide security assistance that enables humanitarian workers to deliver life-saving services to the many terrorized and devastated populations that are being targeted and invaded by violent extremists.
We stand with the people of France and these 13 courageous heroes. Their selfless service will not be forgotten.
