Partnering with the High Islamic Council, Embassy Bamako supported the launch a national awareness Ebola campaign targeting Imams throughout Mali. The HIC will train one thousand Imams who will then educate their local communities on appropriate behavior to combat the spread of Ebola. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Public Affairs Section held meetings with the HIC to develop key messages for Imams to use in public outreach, in sermons, and materials to be distributed to worshippers. At the ceremony, whose keynote speaker was the Malian Prime Minister, the CDC made a presentation on Ebola, while Charge d’Affaires, a.i., Andrew Young praised the government for its efforts and commitments in fighting the spread of Ebola.
