The United States Embassy condemns terrorist attack against MINUSMA
The United States Embassy strongly condemns today’s terrorist attack against MINUSMA, the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission, which wounded nine Nigerien peacekeepers. Three civilians were also killed and seven more were wounded. We express our deepest condolences to the victims and their families and our hopes for the speedy recovery those who were injured. The United States remains fully committed to supporting the efforts of MINUSMA to assist Mali in consolidating its peace and security while promoting national reconciliation.
This terrorist attack underscores the need for all Malians to move forward on the basis of the peace Accord initialed in Algiers on March 1 without further delay. The best way to counter the terrorists who are operating in Mali is for Malians to build a national consensus for the future of their country and this Accord is that critical first step in this process. Mali needs to move forward on the challenging task of implementing a durable peace so that all Malians can begin rebuilding their lives.
