The United States Embassy condemns terrorist attack on Red Cross vehicle

Embassy of the United States in Mali
Press Release

Bamako, Mali, March 31, 2015

The United States Embassy strongly condemns the reprehensible terrorist attack on a Red Cross vehicle that killed one staff member and seriously wounded another.  We offer our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and our hopes for the speedy recovery of his colleague. We view this attack as particularly heinous as it was carried out against a humanitarian organization and its employees engaged in critical life-saving work.

This terrorist attack underscores the need for all Malian parties to agree to the peace accord reached in Algiers on March 1 without further delay. We believe the best way to counter the terrorists who are operating in Mali is for Malians to build a national consensus for the future of their country. This Accord is that critical first step for Mali to be able to move forward on the challenging task to implement a durable peace so that all the people of Mali can begin rebuilding their lives.
