U.S. commits to building capacity of Special Forces of the Police

The Malian Ministry of Defense and the Embassy of the United States in Mali recently agreed to enter into a three-year partnership to build the capacity of the special forces of the police. Through this partnership, the special forces of the police will be trained in advanced combat tactics abroad and will also benefit from the expertise of US military advisers during training exercises in Bamako. The goal of this partnership is to enhance Mali’s capacity to manage crises and respond to terrorist threats. To illustrate this new partnership and to magnify its commitment to the Malian Armed Forces, known in French as FAMAS, the Embassy delivered a batch of 50 bullet-proof vests to Commander Diawara for immediate use by his units.
