Ambassador Folmsbee visited Mali’s High Islamic Council and the National Union of Muslim Women of Mali (UNAFEM) to mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan and the official launch of the Embassy’s annual donation of sugar and rice to local charities, NGOs and mosques. Ambassador Folmsbee met with the president of the High Islamic Council and the president of the UNAFEM and expressed his wishes for a peaceful Ramadan for all Muslims in Mali. The donation of sugar and rice from the U.S. Embassy in Bamako is an annual tradition during the month of Ramadan. Throughout the month, members of the Embassy community and their families participate in the donation program to reinforce mutual understanding between Malians, Muslims, and the American people.
