U.S. Embassy Hosts Ebola Video Conference on Covering Ebola Responsibly

U.S. Embassy Bamako, in cooperation with the State Department’s African Regional Services (ARS), hosted a digital video conference with 12 journalists from leading Malian media outlets on November 12.  Led by Ilan Moss, an American communications expert, the group examined how to provide responsible media coverage of the Ebola outbreak, how to source stories on Ebola, and how to structure a story.  Participants asked questions about the role of American journalists when the U.S. recorded its first Ebola cases, how best to access information when the government is not forthcoming, and if racism played a role in the survival of Ebola patients in the United States.
