U.S. Supports Reconciliation Efforts in Mali

To support national reconciliation in Mali, the United States is supporting a campaign called ”#EnsembleNousSommesUnPeuple.”  This campaign, being implemented by 36 Malian organizations in conjunction with USAID, includes many activities to raise awareness about reconciliation efforts. One such activity organized by the local NGO Convergence Nationale pour le Developpement (CONADE) is the screening of World Cup matches at different sites throughout Bamako.  During these events,  organizers discuss the importance of peace, tolerance, and reconciliation,  and disseminate campaign  t-shirts and materials. On June 26, U.S. Ambassador to Mali Mary Beth Leonard and her German counterpart Gunter Overfeld attended the public screening of the U.S.-Germany World Cup game at the Centre de Lecture et d’Animation Infantile Communal in Commune, District of Bamako.
